Course Description:
Shoulder Problems account for more than 7.5 million physician visits per year according to health statistics. This 2-day shoulder course will present state of the art information for treatment of some of the most difficult shoulder conditions you will see. The information obtained will allow you to offer comprehensive examination and treatment approaches for a variety of shoulder conditions. This course will discuss the latest research with numerous case studies as we describe treatment of these conditions. The course format will be delivered with lecture, lab demonstration (if allowed) and open discussions.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion the participant will be able to demonstrate and have an understanding of:
Explain the medical interventions utilized in the management of pathological conditions
of the shoulder commonly seen by physical and occupational therapists
Justify and relate the latest special testing procedures of specific pathologies of the shoulder
Design and justify appropriate rehabilitation programs for different shoulder pathologies
Recognize and evaluate common shoulder injuries
Discuss therapeutic exercise and compare and contrast techniques for various shoulder
pathologies
Implement and utilize functional outcome measurement tools for the shoulder
Uses a clinical decision – making process to establish a differential diagnosis,
synthesized from data obtained by the PT and OT examination
Develop evidence based rehabilitation programs for specific pathologies that are based on
current scientific literature.
Organize symptoms into clusters, syndromes or categories in order to be placed in
appropriate treatment regimes
Review various functional tests described in scientific literature used to determine your
patient’s functional return to activities.
Comprehend functional anatomy of the shoulder.

Presenter: Robert Manske, DPT, MEd, SCS, CSCS, ATC
Robert C. Manske is a former Chairman of the Department of Physical Therapy at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas; and is now a Associate Professor in the Doctoral Physical Therapy Program. Rob graduated from WSU in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education, a Master of Physical Therapy degree in 1994, and further earned a Master of Education degree in Physical Education in 2000. He received his DPT from Massachusetts General Institute of Health Professions in 2006. Rob has been an APTA Board Certified Sports Physical Therapist since 2002. Rob is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) through the National Athletic Trainers Association. In addition to his full time faculty appointment, Rob works at a Via Christi Sports and Orthopedic Rehabilitation facility; spending approximately 15 hours per week treating a variety of knee, shoulder, Elbow, Forearm and Wrist conditions. Rob speaks frequently at conferences, seminars and continuing education courses throughout the U.S.
