Course Description:

This course has emphasis on the differential diagnosis of the pelvic girdle and sacroiliac joints and its relationship to low back pain and lower quadrant dysfunction. Treatment focuses on this area with manual therapy and muscle re-education exercises. Detailed surface anatomy of the pelvic girdle and relevant anatomy of the hip and lumbar spine.

Learning Objectives:

Examine an individual with lumbo-pelvic dysfunction using evidence supported theory with an ecletic approach
Develop a treatment plan based upon motion analysis of the lumbo-pelvic region and provocation testing
Treat specific dysfunctions of the pelvic girdle with muscle energy techniques, manipulative techniques and therapeutic exercise
Design a home exercise program for an individual with lumbopelvic dysfunction
Discuss the pathology of sacroilitis and neutral zone pathomechanics of the pelvic girdle
Be able to examine the facilitated segment and discuss the effects at the hip joint

Presenter: Michael Lucido, PT, OCS, COMT, FAAOMPT

Michael is a graduate of UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and has over 25 years of orthopedic physical therapy experience with clinical interest in spinal dysfunction. Michael is board certified in orthopedic physical therapy and fellowship trained in advanced orthopedic manipulative physical therapy and is presently employed by Select Medical, Inc. Michael has taught on a post-graduate level for physicians, physical therapists and occupational therapists since 1997 and has received several national and local awards for his post-professional teaching in clinical orthopedics. Michael serves as a guest lecturer for both Dallas based physical therapy programs at UT Southwestern and Texas Women’s University.
