COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This is an intermediate level course for Physical Therapists and assistants to explore the current evidence in management of older adults with history of falls who display a variety of system-related challenges, orthopedic and neurologic. The course will detail the aging process, theories of aging, current research on examination and treatment interventions to allow the clinician to develop a comprehensive management plan when they return to the clinic.

PRESENTER: ANN NEWSTEAD, MS, PT, PhD, GCS, NCS

Ann Newstead is a 1978 graduate of the University of Alabama in Birmingham with a Masters in Physical Therapy and a 1976 graduate of the State University College at Potsdam, New York in Biology and Chemistry. Ann has worked in rehabilitation inpatient, outpatient and home health settings in the Houston and San Antonio, Texas areas in staff and supervisory capacities. She has participated in clinical or didactic faculty positions since 1987 and currently is practicing home health care in San Antonio. Ann received her Neurological Clinical Specialization in 1994 and received her Geriatric Specialization in 2005. She currently is conducting research in the area of older adults, persons with neurological dysfunctions and persons with amputations at the VA/UTHSCSA Movement and Gait Analysis Lab in San Antonio, Texas.
