The Mobilization, Manipulation and Muscle Energy Techniques course has been approved for 15 Contact Hours/CCU’s (15 CEUs for Ohio)

Price: $150.00

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

An overview of rib, spinal, and sacroiliac joint (SIJ) anatomy and biomechanics will be presented. Basic and advanced manual therapy interventions will be instructed and practiced including the theories and techniques of spinal mobilizations, high velocity thrusts, and muscle energy techniques. No cervical high velocity thrusts will be performed in this course. This seminar will also include an APTA evidenced based presentation on the role of physical therapists performing spinal manipulation as it pertains to the physical therapy scope of practice

TOPICS:

Kinematics of the Thoracic and Lumbar Spine & SIJ
PIVM Testing of the Thoracic & Lumbar Spine and SIJ
Ins and Outs of Manipulation
Mobilization (Ribs, Thoracic, Lumbar, and SIJ)
Kinematics of the Cervical and Suboccipital Regions
PIVM testing of the Cervical and Suboccipital Regions
Cervical and Suboccipital Mobilizations
Manipulation – (Ribs, Thoracic, Lumbar, SIJ)
Muscle Energy Techniques
Manipulation and Muscle Energy Techniques

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Describe the arthrokinematics, of the occiput through S1 and ribs, which occur during flexion, extension, sidebending, and rotation.
Distinguish 5 absolute and 3 relative contraindications for high velocity thrust techniques.
Design a manual therapy intervention sequence for a person with multiple impairments of the lumbar spine, SIJ, and pelvic region.
Differentiate between the 5 grades of mobilizations including the amount of pressure needed and the indications of each grade.
Discriminate between the various impairments of the sacrum and innominates and perform appropriate muscle energy or high velocity thrust techniques.
Demonstrate a variety of high velocity thrust techniques to increase ROM in the thoracic and lumbar spine area.
Demonstrate graded mobilization techniques to increase ROM and/or modulate pain at all spinal levels (suboccicipital, cervical, thoracic, and lumbar), ribs, and sacroiliac joints.
Contrast the various rib positioning impairments as it relates to diagnosis and perform appropriate muscle energy or high velocity thrust
