Presenter: Pamela Scarborough, PT, DPT, CDE, CWS, FACCWS

Pamela is currently the Director of Public Relations and Education for American Medical Technologies, headquartered in Irvine, California. Her clinical career spans over 30 years having practiced a variety of setting including acute, out-patient, home health and long-term care.   Her clinical experience has included tradtional physial therapy, orthopetics and sports medicine, cardiac rehabilitation, and wound care. She considers herself a physical therapist generalist with specialtiy interests in diabetes and wounds.Pamela has published book chapters, articles, and monographs on the topics of diabetes and wound care, in addition to frequently being invited to present at conferences and educational activities around the country on these and related subjects. She holds an active licensed as a physical therapist in the state of Texas and is certified by two nationally accredited boards, the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators, where she has held the credential of Certified Diabetes Educator for the past 20 years…and the American Academy of Wound Management where she has held the Certified Wound Specialist credential since the year 2000. She is on the board of directors for the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care and has served on numerous symposium planning panels and association boards over her extensive career.

Course Description:

Debridement is a key component to creating a functional wound bed capable of closure and healing. This course provided in-depth current information, procedures and products for debridement of a wound and reviews the D.I.M.E principles of Wound Bed Preparation. Content includes: autolytic, enzymatic, mechanical and sharp debridement lectures. In addition there will be a hands-on skills lab using sharp debridement instruments on a porcine model. The skills lab includes techniques for holding and using instruments

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion the participant will be able to demonstrate and have an understanding of:

Identify anatomical structures commonly seen during debridement
Identify components of the patient and wound assessments prior to beginning debridement
Discuss the four types of debridement: Autolytic, Mechanical, Enzymatic and Selective Sharp Debridement
