Course Description:

Learn evidence based methods of evaluation and treatment in this course designed for physical therapists and assistants working with fall-prone older adults.  If you have had little coursework on fall prevention, or want to place your existing knowledge about balance tests and treatments into a cohesive framework for systematic application to geriatric clients with a history or high risk of falls, this course is for you.
Day One will focus on evaluation, including comparison of healthy versus at-risk older adults, screening tests, multiple sensory and motor impairment measures, problem identification and goal setting.  Day Two will cover the design, implementation and progression of individualized intervention plans. Emphasis will be placed on testing and treatment methods that are theory-based and strongly supported by research findings.  Instruction will be provided by lecture, video tapes, demonstrations and case studies.  Instructional level: Beginner to Intermediate
